Committees are established by the SMCSPA to organize sponsored events (e.g. the Fashion Show Committee), to coordinate volunteers to support school plays and concerts (e.g. the Arts & Music Committee), and to focus on important topics (e.g. on-going communications to parents, budget, academics, nutrition, etc.) on a regular basis. Joining a committee enables you to influence and participate in various aspects, versus a one-time involvement at a specific event. The role of the Budget Committee is: (i) to create a working budget for the income and expenditures for the current school year; (ii) to consider and approve criterion for funding requests; and (iii) to make recommendations to the SMCS Parents' Association regarding funding requests received. | Kim Del Medico | V | | Social Events Committee Responsibilities: Volunteer assistance in preparing and attending school events such as Meet the Parents Night (new parents), Meet the Teacher Night (curriculum night), SMCSPA Monthly Meetings - Social, University Information Night, Open House for Grade 7 & 9, Grade 7 & 9 Welcome Days. Time Commitment: As required for events. | Darlene Emeny | V | | Academic Committee Responsibilities: Members meet to address issues of an academic nature. Committee drafts / updates the “University Application Guide”, organizes the annual parent speaker program, and initiates projects to support the academic goals of the school. Time Commitment: Meetings are generally held the last Thursday of every month. Additional time commitment as required. | Luba Mycak | V | | Nutrition Committee Responsibilities: Members meet to review and provide input into cafeteria food and beverage selections in order to ensure a balanced, nutritious menu. Time Commitment: As required. | Johanne Parent | V | | Arts & Music Committee Responsibilities: Members meet with the Heads of the Music and Visual Arts Department and the Directiors of the theatre productions, for the purpose of supporting Arts events, as follows: the Christmas and Spring Music Concerts, the Musical and Drama productions, the Celebration of the Arts Week and Club Blue Note. Volunteers are responsible for ticket taking/sales at events, ushering and refreshments during the intermissions. They are also encouraged to assist in the program design, marketing, advertising, designing and construction sets and costumes. Practical experience in these areas is helpful but not necessary.
